The Canadian smartphonemaker RIM has released version 7.1 of its BlackBerry OS announced. This version of the operating system for blackberrys adds the nfc-program Tag and brings tethering to smartphones.

The update is Monday, made available to providers and in the coming time offered to devices that are already BlackBerry OS 7 run, reports RIM. It is unclear when in the Netherlands, purchased copies of the Bold 9900, Torch 9860 and 9810, and the new Curves 9360 and 9380 updates be provided.

The update adds, among more tethering to the operating system, under the name Mobile Hotspot. It is also nfc functionality is added, under the name of BlackBerry Tag. However, this requires a BlackBerry with nfc chip, such as the Bold 9900 or Curve 9380. In addition, the new Curves are available on an app for fm-radio, under BlackBerry OS 7 is still lacking on the device. Also try Universal Search, search terms to populate as you type in using Microsoft’s search engine Bing.

There are several apps of updates, such as BlackBerry Messenger and BlackBerry Maps. It is unclear whether there after 7.1 is still more updates for BlackBerry OS 7 will follow. RIM has been working since some time on devices with the new operating system BlackBerry 10. Which were originally at the end of last year, but were postponed until the end of 2012.
