Minister Verhagen of Economic Affairs, 7 million is available for a data center for high performance computing. Also, he promises to upgrade the Huygens supercomputer, so in the Top500 list.
Verhagen made his promises on the ICT Delta congress, that Wednesday in The Hague was held. The computing centre for high performance computing, and the updated Huygens supercomputer to companies, researchers and developers access to advanced ict services.
Huygens is in urgent need of an update. At its introduction in 2008, the computer cluster to the 35th spot on the Top500 of the world’s most powerful supercomputers. The system is, however, in the last edition of the list outside of the boat. In 2008, the IBM Power 575 Hydro-Cluster about 3328 Power6-cpus with a clock speed of 4.7 GHz. The total memory was 15.6 TB in size, and disk capacity amounted to 972TB. Unknown is where the proposed upgrade is going to exist, but the ministry says that a ‘ranked top again in the crosshairs. Also details about the hpc data center are not yet clear.
Verhagen made further known that Amandus Lundqvist, chairman of the SURF foundation, and of the High Tech Systems Platform, was appointed as an ict ambassador and in that capacity, among other things, must provide for reduction of the administrative burden for the ict sector. The minister launched a Digital ‘entrepreneurs square’, where entrepreneurs can go for government affairs, a contest for apps that use datasets from the government and the programme of Digital Skills Training, for the teaching of digital skills would be needed in the Dutch knowledge economy.
Finally, Verhagen 110 million euros are available for the Commit research programme, which is built from the pillars ‘information’, ‘small computers’ and ‘large-scale rekendiensten’, and split into sixteen sub-projects.
