Unity memorial in Berlin until 2018
The construction of the monument to German unity on Berlin’s castle has been delayed. The project is expected to be completed until 2018 – five years later than planned.
Eventually you will be standing next to the Berlin Palace: the huge gold shimmering rocker that will remind you of the peaceful Revolution in the GDR in 1989 and the recovery of German unity. Under the Motto “citizens in movement”, it should enable the visitors slowly in motion. On the seesaw of the sentence should be: “We are the people. We are one people”. When exactly the monument will be visited, no one knows.
Originally planned for 2013
“The Works are expected to be in 2018, completed,” it said now, from the pages of the Federal office for building and regional planning. The construction work will begin, therefore, in the coming year. Since 2007, the monument is decided and planned since the start of construction will be postponed again and again. Originally, the monument had to be completed in 2013. The date was then postponed several times, most recently to 2017.

A cost increase was expected: “With the specification of the planning is expected to be a budget adjustment,” said the building inspector. So far, a maximum of ten million euros were provided. Not a good sign
From the beginning there were problems with the project. First, a competition failed, the artists parted, finally, the discoveries Wilhelmi delayed of mosaics and rare water bats the Denkmalbau.
The design is by the artists Johannes Milla from Stuttgart and Sasha Waltz from Berlin. Following disagreements over the implementation of Waltz in 2012, was dropped out of the project. The monuments to German unity are seemingly under no good star.
In Leipzig, a unit was blown off the monument in 2014.
