Shortly after two hobbyists a robot made that a rubik’s cube, managed to solve in 1,019 seconds, there is a new speed record established. The Sub1-robot is the first machine that the puzzle in less than a second and managed to get it done.

The German engineer Albert Bear is the maker of Sub1. For troubleshooting used the robot two webcams, a picture of the cube, where on each photo, three sides are visible. The webcams for the start of the oplosprocedure covered, so that the calculation of the solution does not take place in advance.

To the solution to calculate Beer the algorithm by Herbert Kociemba. The solution is then sent to an Arduino-compatible computerbordje sent, that the six stepper motors the gives instructions to the twenty steps required to carry out. The Sub1-robot succeeded in the famous cube in 887 milliseconds seconds to solve. At the end of January was the time by another robot on 1,019 seconds.

According to Bear, there was hundreds of hours of time in building, programming and tuning of Sub1 and it is the first robot that independently a rubik’s cube can solve in less than one second. He has a recordclaim submitted to Guinness World Records and is awaiting a confirmation.

The attempt is, according to the author is done with a by the World Cube Association verified speed cube, in the Cubikon-store in München. The official world record is still in the name of a machine out of Lego in 2014 with the help of a Samsung Galaxy S4 a rubik’s cube, managed to solve in 3,253 seconds. The ‘manual’ world record is on the name of Luke Etter, who in november 2015, at fourteen years of age, a rubik’s cube solved in 4,904 seconds.
