Final conclusion

Score: 5Per criterion

Score: 4

When the camera was released, I immediately 1 bought. And at that time, in 2012, was really a breath of fresh air t.o.v. anything Canon had. My previous camera was the 5d2 and the 5d3 is everything the 5d2 already had. Good, fine image quality and overall a very pleasant body.
Now, almost 4 years later, both of my 5d3’s reasonable to replace. They both have over 150K on the shutter. The batteries are in surprisingly good condition still and per battery I can always have around 2000 shots. More than I ever need on 1 day (work with grip, 2 batteries makes 4000 shots).

The cameras still work fine and are used daily. But time does not stand still, and in the meantime o.a. the A7RII hatched and you can see that the sensor of the 5d3 behind starts to walk away. The 5dsR is also true, but offers very little added value for t.o.v. the 5d3. Identical body and features a (nearly) aanpsasing the new 50MP sensor. That pretty much detail, but in terms of ruisprestatie and DR. still lagging behind the competition. And that is still very bad after 4 years of development time.

To sum up, the 5d3 have me for 4 years on a daily basis in my work and helped to continue that in the near future, still do. They are reliable and work very fine. But, I still check with smart to the 5d4 that after 4 years, it may show what Canon R&D has managed to achieve.

Used in combination with:

  • Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L II USM
