HTC will unlock the bootloader on its smartphones is still not open. Who still want, can be a key to request that the bootloader may be unlocked, but with this unlockmethode the warranty on the unit expired.

Also, in the future, will HTC phones with locked bootloaders to be sold, so the manufacturer via Facebook known. This brings HTC back on the earlier promise that new models with an unsecure bootloader would be delivered. Users of current models, and future devices may request the bootloader be unlocked, but this will void the warranty on the unit.

Unlocking the bootloader allows the running of custom roms possible. Samsung produces devices without lock; Sony Ericsson has just as HTC is a tool available to remove protection.

HTC’s procedure to the bootloader unlock is quite cumbersome: first time users must register with a valid e-mail address. They must agree to voiding the warranty. Then must the device to a pc with the Android SDK be attached to a ‘device token’. That token can only be inserted in a web-based tool, which key produces which on the device, the boot loader can be unlocked. Presumably, the procedure is made so complicated in order to prevent owners too frivolous with custom firmwares go to work.

An unprotected boot loader is for a lot of tweakers important when choosing a new smartphone. The general public seems less concerned: in the second quarter saw HTC’s sales of its devices to grow strongly.
