In the weekly App Missed section you can read which apps from the past week are worth checking out. We always discuss about five apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac. These could be apps that you may not have known about or that are useful or just fun to try. And that can also be veterans who have received a major update and therefore receive some extra attention.

Discussed earlier this week on iCulture:

  • Indie App Santa Advent Calendar: Every Day a free app or game
  • These were the most popular apps of 2021 in the Netherlands
  • These are the winners of the App Store Awards 2021
  • NLZIET app gets profiles: everyone has their own recommendations

iCulture App of the Week: PassThru Many iCulture readers use the Apple Wallet app to store their passes and tickets. As far as we are concerned, that works very well and pleasantly, but there is one big disadvantage: not all cards are made for Wallet. With apps like Pass4Wallet you can make a Wallet card yourself, although that is not the most pleasant option for everyone. That is why we are now writing about PassThru. This Dutch-made app makes it easy to save your tickets.

PassThru gives you your own email address. When you send your tickets here, your tickets will be loaded into the app. You can then name, sort, modify and of course view them in the app. It's unfortunately not as elegant as Wallet, but it's also not really replicable for a developer. PassThru has a great design. If you find the app really useful, then the subscription of €0.99 per month is useful. This allows you to store unlimited tickets.

Fuoco

We know the Portrait mode of the iPhone by now. This photo mode is intended to shoot a nice portrait picture without fuss. Sometimes, however, you have taken a normal photo and you still want that portrait effect. Fuoco is useful for those situations. In this app you can simply tap to determine what you want to focus on. The aperture is also adjustable. Finished? Then you can even edit later in Apple's Photos app, because Fuoco works well with that app.

Vinegar

One drawback of using the YouTube website on your iPhone or iPad is that it can be damn hard to play the videos in picture-in-picture mode. The Vinegar Safari extension makes that easy. The extension slightly changes the code of a YouTube webpage giving you a different video player. It's easy to switch to picture in picture, so you can watch the video while doing other things on your iPhone or iPad. Also removes it. Note: Vinegar only works in Safari and not in the YouTube app.

HardstyleReleases

Are you a hardstyle fan? Then this app is for you. The Dutch app HardstyleReleases does exactly what you expect from its name. The app helps you find new music. HardstyleReleases shows the album cover, title, artist and even the label. You can also see the release date of a track. You can sync the app with Spotify and easily add songs to your playlists. This app, developed by Julian van Heek, is free to use. You can buy ads for a tenner.

ScrEad

We close this App Missed with a Dutch app. ScrEad, which stands for Scan & Read, collects all the news that interests you. From 112 local news to global tech news, you'll find it here. ScrEad also offers the weather forecast. The more you use the app, the better it gets to know you. This way you should only get news that interests you. The images in the App Store don't look very modern, but the app itself is updated very regularly. So it should work like a charm!
