“What is German?” asked the Chancellor in the “image”-newspaper. The Deutsche Welle is the question – author, Henryk M. Broder, Caritas-in-chief Peter Neher, and others.

Long weekend, singing in the choir and home cooking: the “Alphabet” in the “image”newspaper has listed the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in the middle of the election campaign, what belongs for you to Germany – and the reader is invited to Supplement this list. The Deutsche Welle has celebrities, publicists, and others asked: “What is German?” And: “What is missing on Merkel’s list?”

Henryk M. Broder, journalist (“hurray, we capitulate!”)

“English is one thing – namely, the question of what is German. I stopped for a while in the Netherlands, Israel and America and observed: This question is asked with this frequency and intensity only in Germany. I’ve seen it in Israel, but not in this accumulation and relentlessness. The eternal search for identity, the: where we come from and what do we want? – this is just the typical German way. The German soul is ticking differently than others.

And the Second, what is really typically German, is the Desire to take responsibility – to save development countries, to eliminate the causes of refugee movement, increasing prosperity in Europe. This idea only a people can come, which has lost two world wars.”

Jagoda Marinic, a journalist and a writer (“Made in Germany – What is German in Germany?”)

“Hiking, the forest and the garden: Merkel’s ABC is often old-fashioned, as I see Germany. I associate the country with something much Urbanerem, although meadows with Apple trees for me. Overall, we have quite different views on what is English – even if Merkel identifies many of the things I find important.

Me F like feminism, however, is missing in the ABC is quite clear, even if the Chancellor himself referred to as a feminist. In the case of A of the recruitment agreements for guest workers think of me but – this is part of my life story and that of many other people in Germany, therefore also, of course, my book title “Made in Germany”.

Because as the Chancellor also partly responsible for the fact that very many people came to Germany, I’m missing the E in any case, immigration and the country of immigration. V I would like to add – even if it sounds a little mean – the supposedly typical German words prohibition and regulation.

Merkel’s ABC – What is English?

With S as a Social market economy, Merkel has raised, however, on one of the most important points in this country – which is interesting, because you accused her as a Chancellor, to work against this. Also the designated freedom of the press is important – where you want then, of course, that the government is doing something about it, that in Turkey, imprisoned absolutely German Journalist Deniz Yücel finally comes free. Volunteering I think is very English, and very important. But it’s funny that you have created for this society to each other-Do immediately office.”

Eric T. Hansen, writer ( “The fearful superpower. Why Germany finally grow up”)

“If I would make an ABC from Germany, I’d start with A like Angie. For all the criticism and political disagreement – it is a world-class politician. She has lifted Europe to the international stage and made a country, to the many other people and countries look with respect and esteem.

She has set the nuclear phase-out, although it was an idea of Green. With the refugee policy has given Germany a moral leadership position – for the first Time, Germany is morally really good. Merkel’s list was very positive and Patriotic. And I think the Germans can be Patriotic. This is in order.”

Roland Tichy, a Journalist and a publicist (“Tichy’s insight”)

“The list of Merkel’s expression of how she wants to make the election. It is not intended to be a gefühliger election campaign, in which the problem cases in the country occur at all if possible. Who can have something against yeast dough, against Quark or Bayreuth. If Y, Bayern. Because you can feel that she wants to satisfy everyone – even the Bavaria, the CSU, with the Chancellor on the cross.

Merkel’s Alphabet is not a campaign program, but you could still raise a few issues that people really. One could argue in the case of A, for example, deportation. You could call it a refugee crisis, energy transition and tax increase. You could broach the issue of pensioner poverty. If I could name just as something Nice, like Integration, but also Internal security. You realize, it is something very Sleepy, Politically-Correct for this ABC to roll on the attempt, in a sleeping car back to Power.”

Peter Neher, President of the German Caritas Association

“I would like to add: S as solidarity.Germans are in solidarity with people in Need. This is shown by the many volunteers in our country, but also the willingness to donate in the event of disasters and crises.”
