In the European elections, the right-wing have the most part. Now you are going to organize before the first meeting of the EU-Parliament. Their influence on legislation remains limited. Bernd Riegert from Brussels.

Phalanx of the Right: Marco Zanni (li.), Marine Le Pen, Jörg Meuthen (Mi.)

Under the leadership of the radical right-wing of the Italian ruling party, the Lega has formed in the newly elected European Parliament, a new political group, the right to national and right-wing populist parties from nine countries. In the press room of the newly crowned Faction leader, Marco Zanni wanted to explain to the Lega, the EU-critical objectives of the new group. In the beginning, however, there were communication difficulties, because Zanni spoke in Italian and no interpreter translated. The French Head of the Rassemblement National, Marine Le Pen, turned excited to the buttons, the German MEP Jörg Meuthen of the AfD pressed enervated his headphones to the ears.

When finally an interpreter was found, Zanni quickly and word about the cloudy principles of mixed-nationalists force. They wanted to prevent a European super-state, multi-national sovereignty when it comes to money spend and no EU interference in the Affairs of member States. Marco Zanni, the first heard of the populist “5 star movement” in Italy, and then to the right, the Lega changed, said the group did not want “internal Transfers within the European Union”. Zanni reflects the view of his party leaders, Italy’s interior Minister Matteo Salvini, the demands in the budget dispute with the European Commission that Italian money is issued only for Italian citizens. The populist government in Rome does not want to bend the rules, which apply to all countries with the common currency, the Euro. The EU Commission criticized the high debt in Italy.

No common language with some of the issues: Chairman Zanni (li.), Jörg Meuthen (re.)

With or without the Euro?

The head of the “Finns”party, Jussi Halla-aho, spoke in favour of the community currency equal to completely abolish the 19 States of the Euro Zone to resolve. As far as the German representative Jörg Meuthen not want to go, even if Germany would not be claimed by the Euro not so much to benefit, as always. “We want a different Euro-Zone,” said Meuthen of the DW. He could imagine, for example, the introduction of parallel currencies. Italy’s populists are thinking about new promissory notes for the payment of invoices in Italy to spend, what would be according to the rules of the Euro-Zone is unlawful. From such Considerations, the Austrian Deputy Vilimsky of the FPÖ, in turn, keeps little. “We need the Euro for our prosperity,” says Vilimsky. That you find yourself in the Central points of the EU policy, like the Euro, do not agree to be in the new group, and not found Vilimsky a concern to you. “The other groups are not so well”, he claimed.

A minority

The French woman Marine Le Pen, has not stood as a candidate for the European Parliament, and only as the party Chairman in the press room appeared, spoke from the European chess Board, the policy on which new characters would be: “This is a whole new Situation. The sound is quite different, not only in Parliament but also in the Council.” There, the governments of the member States are represented. As you come to this evaluation, is unclear. The right-wing populists have gained in the European elections only slightly. In the Council they are weakened by the collapse of the national-conservative government of Christian Democrats and the FPÖ in Austria, rather. The representative of the “Finns”, Jussi Halla-aho, saw the Whole, then, something more realistic: “We are still in the minority, but the minority is bigger than before. The formation of the group proves that even nationalists can work together.”

Group chief Zanni answered questions from journalists

New group place 5

So far, the right-wing populists and right-wing radicals were divided in the European Parliament, in three groups. In the new Parliament, there are only two rights groups. With 73 Seats, the today’s new group of the “identity and democracy” is the fifth-largest in Parliament. In front of her, the Christian Democrats (179 seats), social Democrats (152), Liberal (110) and Green (76) are. The EU-enemy “Brexit-Party” of the British MEP Nigel Farage, together with the Italian populists of the “5-star”, the largest government party in Italy, a group. In a further group of Polish rights and British Conservatives are closed together.

After Brexit, at the Moment, for the 31. October terminated, will move the Weights slightly again. The rights group would get three substitutions, and on 76 seats to grow. The Greens would shrink and only 69 deputies come. Of your of Lega-chief Matteo Salvini issued a choice target to be the largest group in Parliament, the Right is still far. You can advertise, however, the Hungarian party “Fidesz” of Prime Minister Victor Orban. Had become disenchanted with the Christian-democratic group and is open at the Moment, where he and his 13 Fidesz MPs want to dock. If Orban moved, it would fall back to the Christian Democrats (EPP) to 166 seats, while “identity and democracy” to 89 would increase.

German election result: right-wing populists of the AfD on place four

EU friends have to close back together

With the losses for the national parties and the Rise of the smaller groups in the European Parliament for the first time, needed to form coalitions of at least three fractions, in order to create stable majorities for legislation. As Christian Democrats, social Democrats, Liberal and Green exclude the possibility of cooperation with the right-wing populists, they must, in future, cooperate more with each other. The opinion research platform “poll of polls” has to be all of the EU-sceptical and all EU-friendly members from all Camps, whether to the right or to the left, counted together, and comes to the following image: In the ninth Parliament has a total of 473 EU friends, but also 251 opponents of the EU are represented. At 27 members, the attitude could not be clearly determined.
