The hopes were huge: As the fourth country in the world Israel wanted to land on the moon. However, it should not be. In the last Minute there were technical problems with the spacecraft.

The space probe shortly before it crashed on the surface of the moon

The landing of the Israeli space probe “Beresheet” (Genesis) on the moon failed. The world have had the vehicle compartment just before landing drive problems and had apparently crashed on the surface of the moon, project co-ordinator Morris Kahn in a Live video transmission from the control center in Tel Aviv. “We didn’t make it, but we tried it anyway.”

During the Live broadcast was heard, as employees are not talking about engines, the braking of the spacecraft and a soft landing should allow, work. There is no more contact to the 585-kilogram probe. “We are on the moon, but not the way we wanted,” said an employee.

In the case of a successful maneuver of Israel would have been the fourth country with a successful landing on the moon, after the former Soviet Union (1966), the USA (1966), and China (2013). The “Beresheet” would have been the first private space vehicle at all, that would have placed on the moon.

Seven weeks ago in Florida

The spacecraft was at 22. February started from US space station Cape Canaveral in Florida, and during their seven week long travel around 6.5 million miles. To All of you was brought by a Falcon-9-rocket the private US space company SpaceX Elon Musk. Built in “Beresheet” of the private company SpaceIL in cooperation with Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI), one of the largest defense companies in Israel.

For almost a week, the probe circled the moon and mastered several important maneuvers. On Board of the “Beresheet” was also a time capsule, containing a series of digital files. These painted images, the memories of Holocaust Survivors and an Israeli flag, among other things, of children. At the beginning of March, the probe sent the first photo of you in All the earth.
