The eSport-FIFA Team of the Borussia: Stefan Beer, Michael Gherman, Yannick Reiners, Georgios Papatolis (v. l. n. r.)

DW: this Wednesday, the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL). You’re with three colleagues for Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Start. You’re excited, or rather cool?

Yannick Reiners: A mixture of both.

There is a target of the club for the season?

No, at least no concrete specification of what placement we should achieve at the end.

You have you personally set a goal?

Realistically, this is for our Team a place among the Top Ten. I am sure that we can achieve this.

13 Bundesliga team and nine second division with a Team in the VBL. Who do you count as the favourites?

Stuttgart, Bremen and Leipzig. They have experienced international players who have been around for many years. This is an advantage.

The home team gets to determine which console after the two single matches will be played in the double – how important is the console of choice in game three?

I think it may be in some Two-on-two Play is crucial, because some players are recorded on the X-Box much better than on the PlayStation or the other way around. So I don’t see it as a decisive factor.

You’re a PlayStation player, one of the three in your Team, there is also a X-Box player. How likely is it that in game three PlayStation is played?

This is more likely to be the case, because there is a total of significantly more PlayStation players than X-Box players.

FIFA tournament of the Hamburg football Association

FIFA Championships, there were even earlier. What changes with the new VBL?

Almost every club from the first and second football Bundesliga, now has the FIFA club players. This has become a real Trend. In recent times, many associations have joined the club.

Do you think that the merger of a League under the umbrella of the DFL to the subject of eSports and the eSports-title FIFA a decisive thrust?

I think it is. We will definitely get more attention. And that the games will be broadcast every Thursday on Free TV, will give the scene a boost.

Do you think the new League that eSports is more than a Sport perceived?

I hope that people will not accept in the long term, that eSports means that you are sitting at home, lazy around on the Couch, and a round of gambles, but that it also requires Talent, Training, and preparation. This message arrived in the young Generation. I hope that many of the Older open due to the new Format.

A few months ago, the German Olympic sports Confederation (DOSB) has scolded eSports, literally.

Critics will always be there. But there will also be a very large mass of people, which makes it fun to watch and support the eSport. The will prevail at the end.

You are interested in you personally also for other eSports disciplines, for example League of Legends or Counterstrike?

I play professionally, only FIFA. And by the way, for a change, only once a Fortnite.

Yannick Reiners: “Talent, Training, and preparation”

The mönchengladbach-based professional footballers, some FIFA a gamble, Yes. There are points of contact between you, as an eSports Team and the kickers?

I’ve only been two weeks at Borussia. Since there were no points of contact, the football professionals were also last in the training camp in Spain. But we will meet soon and we also determined changes on the console fairs. I am looking forward to. Christoph Kramer, for example, is known to be a Fan of the game FIFA.

Do you think that you heard as a male in the future?

I hope that I may yet be many years at Borussia. I think the Trend is going in the direction that eSports is becoming more professional, there are always more tournaments. Therefore, I see positive in the future.

Yannick Reiners, in the scene as a “Jeff95”, is an eSports professional. The 23-Year-old met recently at the FIFA eSports-Team of the German Bundesliga team Borussia Mönchengladbach.
