Pina Bausch dance theatre gets new management

After the turbulence of the last months can be the focus of the world-famous squadron back to the work: The dance Manager Bettina Wagner-Bergelt, will assume the artistic direction of Pina Bausch dance theatre.

For four months the Post was vacant. In July, the Advisory Board of the dance theatre of Pina Bausch had dismissed the then artistic Director Adolphe Binder, without notice to you. Now Bettina Wagner-Bergelt, to take on the task, together with Roger Christmann, the commercial management was transferred. The new management Duo is committed for two years and to initiate a Transition. “The aim must be to keep the legacy of Pina Bausch’s alive and develop further,” said the mayor of the city of Wuppertal, Andreas Mucke (SPD). First of all, but quite specifically about the game plan for the Rest of the season: The current season is only planned until February 2019.

Bettina Wagner-Bergelt, previously worked as Deputy Director of the Bavarian state ballet in Munich, the Belgians Roger Christmann was triennial interim managing Director of Kultur Ruhr GmbH, the organizers of the Ruhr.

A New Impetus

The company of Pina Bausch, is world-famous. More than 40 pieces, who died in 2009 choreographer are still in the Repertoire. Under Adolphe Binder, the Ensemble had performed for the first time, pieces by other choreographers. “Of course, the Ensemble needs to get new impulses”, says the new artistic Director, Bettina Wagner-Bergelt. At the same time, Pina Bausch did not leave the factory, “where each choreographer can be over come”.

The new management Duo will begin its work in the coming week. In Parallel, the city of Wuppertal wants to consult with experts about the future direction of the famous dance theatre. Also planned is a “Pina-Bausch-center”, for which the Federal cost of funding in the amount of eight million euros, half of the planned facilities.
