Samsung has the Galaxy S5 mini will be presented. The smaller version of the Galaxy S5 has the same appearance and shares many of the features with the bigger variant, but has a screen with lower resolution and a considerably less powerful processor.
The Galaxy S5 mini has, just like its predecessor, the S4 mini is a Snapdragon 400 processor on board, though this time to the MSM8226 from Qualcomm with four Cortex A7 processor cores at 1.4 GHz instead of the dual-core variant, with Krait cores. The gpu remains the Adreno 305 and the ram in the S5 mini, just as its predecessor, a size of 1.5 GB.
The screen of the S5 mini is an amoled panel with a diagonal of 4.5″ and a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The S5 mini has a slightly larger screen than the S4 mini, but is also physically larger: the device measures 13,1×6,5 cm, compared with 12,4×6,1cm of the small S4. That means the bezels on the S5 mini slightly larger.
The S5 mini has the same design as the big S5 with ‘pits’ in the material on the back. Also, the smartphone is waterproof and has a ip67 certification, which allows the unit for a half hour at one meter depth under water would be able to survive. Also the finger print scanner in the Home button is present, like the heart rate monitor on the back.
The new Samsung smartphone will come in the summer in the Dutch shops and get a suggested retail price of 479 euros. That is two tens less than the price of the S4 mini at release: that was 499 euros, but has since dropped to 255 euros.
