Hackers create user data loot on eBay

Hackers have on auction site eBay had access to a database with user data. This include other encrypted passwords are captured. Ebay asks all users to change their password.

The attack on the database would be somewhere between late February and early march have taken place after the hackers login credentials of an employee had acquired. The weiter would, however, only two weeks ago by eBay, are discovered. In addition to encrypted passwords, the attackers, were also able to access e-mail addresses, home addresses, dates of birth, usernames, and phone numbers.

According to the auction site, there are, in all likelihood, no credit card information stolen. Also claims to be the company that there is no evidence that the stolen data was used in suspicious transactions on its auction platform.

Despite the fact that the passwords in the database were encrypted, attackers can attempt yet to crack. Ebay has decided to all of its 112 million users to request their password to change. Also warns about the auction site to choose a password that is already on other websites is used, a habit that despite the dangers that still for many internet users is applicable. Subsidiary PayPal had previously to its users requested to provide their eBay password to change.
