American authorities go chirurgierobots studies on bugs

The U.s. Food and Drug Administration has an investigation been announced to robots used in hospitals for surgery. There would be hundreds of medical errors made in the past time. However, it is still unclear whether the error in the robots.

According to the FDA, the number of incidents with robots, what a reason to open an investigation, reports ABC News. It involves the Da Vinci robots, which are developed by the company Intuitive Surgical. Of the five hundred claims in the last few months about the robotic system at the FDA have been received, in five cases, one patient died. However, it is unclear whether errors in the robotic system actually have played a role.

The FDA established research there are still no results, enabling the organization to no conclusions. However, there are already a number of possible causes: for instance, the use of the Da Vinci robot in the increased substantially in recent years, reducing the number of incidents may meestijgt. Also, doctors may not have the correct qualities needed for the robot to operate.

As part of the research is the Da Vinci robot examined for bugs. The Johns Hopkins university and Carnegie Mellon university are going to develop software which should demonstrate whether there is actually errors in the robotic system sit. Currently, however, there are still no bugs reported. The Da Vinci robot last year 367.000 time in the United States, but is also used in some Dutch hospitals, including the MCL.
