Google has a netwerkbug in Android repaired which prevented users could log on to certain wifi networks. The bug was in april of 2010, have already been reported and was present since version 2.1 of the mobile operating system.

The bug had the effect that users of wi-fi networks that use a browserportal to log in, that page sometimes could not reach. Therefore, they could not log on, and therefore no access to the network. Different agencies, especially schools and universities, make use of a similar structure to users on a wi-fi network.

With wi-fi networks that have a domain name to specify the hostname of the login page, not be reduced to the corresponding ip address because Android does not take into account the local domain of the network. If a user to https://inlogpagina is sent to sign, would Android have to recognize that this hostname resolved to https://inlogpagina.domein.extensie but this did not happen.

Even though the bug is now fixed in the source code of Android, it may take some time before the patch also users achieved. According to a Google employee is the patch in the next major release of the operating system. When that will be is not yet known. The last major release was version 4.2, which recently came out.
