Facebook has in London opened a branch with two lwa ntwintig employees going to focus on the further development of the social network. It is Facebooks first engineering office outside of the United States.
The development team in London will start small, says Facebook in a blog post. The London team will, according to Philip Su, a software engineer at Facebook, eventually focus on the development of products in key areas like mobile and platform. It is the fourth branch which is specifically concerned with technical development and the first outside the US.
That Facebook a development team outside the United States founded, is not illogical, though London may not be the most obvious choice. In may wrote websitemonitor Pingdom in a report: “It seems clear that Facebook needs to extend to all corners of the world, but with a focus on certain regions, such as Africa and Asia.” According to Su, is London, however, ‘a perfect fit’ for the company. “It is a hub of world renown, with a vibrant start-up community and a lot of technical talent.”
