Samsung allows users to remote control with voice and gestures

Samsung has at CES 2012 its new tv lineup announced. The two top models have a webcam and microphone built-in which speech and gestures can be recognised. The ES8000 is the distinctive foot.

According to Samsung, the integration of camera and microphone in the new ES8000 and E7000-series, by Samsung Smart Interaction, the use of a physical remote control is superfluous. So with a simple voice command the tv to be turned on or off, an app launched or a search is initiated. Also, the volume can be adjusted and by web pages gescrolled. Competitor LG also gives high on about his speech, but in the solution of KS, the voice recognition via the new Magic motion Remote.

With the built-in hd camera with a yet unknown resolution, can faces be recognized and can automatically use the Smart Hub account, which belongs to the face of the user. Facial recognition is already used in some Sony Bravia models and the Regza LV863-series from Toshiba. The camera and microphone in Samsung is placed in a bulge at the top of the tv’s.

The new tv’s would also be significantly faster than the previous generation. The tv’s are equipped with a redesigned browser with which it is possible to have two pages next to each other to show, while with the bluetooth support keyboards and mice wirelessly on the tv’s can be connected. Also, it is possible to store up to 5GB of content to place on the AllShare Cloud Server via AllShare Play on multiple devices, such as smartphones and tablets to play.

Samsung promises every year, with a Future TV-kit to come out that the new functionality of newer generation tv’s also available on Samsung tvs with Smart TV that can now be purchased. What that Future TV-kit exactly the content is, however, not yet known.
