The upcoming version of XBMC is the XvBA-technology from AMD support. This makes it possible to video hardware to accelerate on AMD Radeon gpus and Fusion apus. Among other films to be as smoother playback.

The XvBA-technology of AMD is still a relatively little exploited by mediaspelersoftware, but the upcoming XBMC release, ‘Eden’ called, promises to support. This allows owners of a recent Radeon video card or a system with a Fusion apu to take advantage of hardware accelerated video, so writes Phoronix. In particular, video compressed with the h.264 or vc-1 codec would benefit. Support for mpeg2, especially to find it in dvd files, however, is not yet present.

To get XvBA to be able to use it within XBMC, used the open-source mediaspelersoftware the now released codebase of AMD. This is packaged in the xvba-va-driver. On Linux systems XvBA, AMD’s proprietary fglrx-driver version 11.11 or higher to be installed.
