The upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 LTS will be in all probability no longer on a cd-recordable fit. The Ubuntu developers have for the Precise Pangolin-release in april to a maximum image size of 750MB.
A number of developers proposed to the standard-image to significantly expand to 1.5 GB, but after some discussion came to an image size of 750MB out of the bus, reports Phoronix. The extra 50MB makes it possible to have more packages in the iso-image, especially for Gnome 3 and any applications where Canonical still working on. In addition, such an image yet to place it on a 1GB usb-stick or a dvdr.
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS will, however, also partly be slimmed down. So will the Mono framework disappear, as well as the Mono-dependent media application Banshee and note app Tomboy. As a new music player, will Rhythmbox be integrated.
During the UDS session, there is also debate about the introduction of ConnManager, a device of Intel, to replace the current NetworkManager. At present, it is, however, driven by the integration of the latest NetworkManager-stack. This includes support for aggregating multiple network interfaces, and increased vpn and firewall support. Furthermore, on the UDS a demo will be given of an improved multi-support in Precise Pangolin.
