Vladimir Putin (l.) and John Kerry in Moscow

U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry has urged for a Meeting with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin on closer cooperation between the United States and Russia in the Syrian conflict. He hope to real progress, he said at the beginning of the talks in Moscow. The United States and Russia could do much of what served the peace, Kerry said the Agency Interfax according to. This is not only to Syria, but also Ukraine and other topics.

Putin said that US President Barack Obama spoke to him that Russia had helped in the liberation of a U.S. citizen in Syria. Moscow will act in the future, if the United States were asking a question, – said Putin. “We expect that the American side is doing us the same service when we need it,” he said.

Kerry arrived in the evening in the Russian capital. For Friday held detailed talks with foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are scheduled. Previously, the “Washington Post” reported that Kerry would propose Putin to join forces in the fight against terrorists in Syria. The idea of the USA was to set up a joint command center for massive air strikes against the jihadist groups “Islamic state” (IS) and Al-Nusra to set up Front, the newspaper reported, citing the draft of a cooperation agreement.

“It is not clear that this will happen”

Kerry denied the information, would not comment but is also closer. The White house indicated the possibility of such an agreement. Currently, there is neither a common implementation of a coordination of military operations with Russia, said presidential spokesman Josh Earnest. “I know that there is speculation that an agreement to do so, it could be taken. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he was going to make a comment, before the Russian government had heard the representative of Kerry. Generally speaking, Russia was, however, a cooperation with the United States in Syria. The spokesperson of the Russian foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Moscow is satisfied with the current pace in this issue.

Politically sensitive

Russia and the USA fly in Syria independently of each other air attacks. The US-led military coalition is concentrating on the fight against the IS militia, while Russia goes on as an ally of the Syrian government against several rebel groups. Cooperation with Russia would be for Washington politically sensitive: it could be interpreted by critics of the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama as the connivance of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s power, is supported by Moscow.

According to Assad’s Russian allies, have never spoken with him about a “political Transition”. “Only the Syrian people decide who is President, when he comes and when he goes,” said Assad in a television interview with U.S. broadcaster NBC. At the same time, Assad praised Russia’s role in the fight against the IS, Al-Qaeda and other “terrorist groups” in Syria. Unlike the policy of the United States, the Russian policy, not the foot, to make agreements, but on values. Damascus and Moscow shared a common interest in the fight against terrorism, which could strike anywhere, Assad said.

The UN security Council considers the IS and competing with the terrorist network Al-Qaeda allied Al-Nusra Front as terrorist organizations. The two groups are not included in the ceasefire between the Syrian army and various rebel.

The IS and the Al-Nusra Front, are pursuing different strategies: The Islamic state wants to consolidate his Power in the conquered territories in Iraq and Syria. The Al-Nusra Front fought together with the other rebel groups first and foremost the Assad government.
