Jacques Rivette died

He was a unique voice of the French cinema. The Director was one of the founding fathers of the Nouvelle Vague. 87 years old, he was – and leaves behind a remarkable work.

He is without doubt one of the greats of French and European cinema. Jacques Rivette is one next to Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, and Claude Chabrol to the circle of those who in the late 1950s, early 1960s, the Nouvelle Vague from the baptism lifted.

This revival of the cinema washed down the conventions of the old, conventional Nachkriegsfilms of it. It was a Filmrevolution, after and throughout Europe. Rivette was one of the most influential Directors of those years. And yet to distinguish his films from those of his Regiekollegen.

The Director worked up to an advanced age and brought the 2009 Film “36 views from the Pic Saint-Loup” in the cinemas. Now is Rivette at the age of 87 years died.
