Tourism in Europe at record levels

The number of Overnight stays in Hotels and Hostels in Europe in the past year, a record figure achieved. In 2015, the EU provisional estimates indicate that approximately 2.8 billion Nights booked.

This was announced by the European statistics Agency Eurostat on Tuesday in Luxembourg. Compared to 2014 will increase by more than three per cent. The leader, with about 421 million Overnight stays was Spain, followed by France (413 million), Italy (385 million) and Germany (379 million). Since 2009, the number of Nights spent in the EU has steadily risen, it said.

The largest increase in Overnight stays registered in Romania with 15.9 percent, and Slovakia, with 11.5 percent. The largest decline reported by Eurostat for Lithuania (minus 7 percent), Latvia (minus 1.3 percent) and Bulgaria (minus 1.1 percent).

The statistics of recorded Overnight stays, which is used both by residents as well as non-residents for business and leisure trips were made. 2015 have, especially the cross-border tourism increased significantly.
