For your multimedia project, the DW receives the prestigious Digital Media Award in 2017, the RIAS Berlin Commission. With over 200 Interviews before the US presidential election in 2016, it showed the diversity and Divisiveness in the United States.

A seemingly simple question and a journalistic team effort from #what America exceptional – and now award-winning multimedia project. “What kind of America you want?” was moved, the question with which the journalists of the DW before the US presidential election by the country as a whole – and finally the whole world. The question of “moving and employed many Americans in the run-up to the last election,” said the Jury about the project. Further, it was said: “The DW-correspondent-produced to the topic of comprehensive programs with many exciting Interviews, including with the democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. With the long-term project, the DW went to the US-American pre-election mood.”

The Team of the DW wanted to reflect the diversity of opinion within the population and respondents of the citizens on the future role of the United States and abroad. During the US presidential election campaign was in TV, Online and via Facebook-Live reported finally, the survey was expanded internationally with the question: “what America goes global?” The over 200 Statements of the multilingual project were able to retrieve the user in an interactive map and according to certain demographic characteristics of filters.

For DW-editor-in-chief Ines Pohl, who had led in her time as a Washington correspondent, many of the Interviews, the price is also a recognition for the months of work: “I am delighted that this prize distinguishes a project, that is the exact opposite of noise is: serious journalism. We asked open-ended questions, listened to a wide range of opinions represented.” Significantly, Richard Walker, Florian Kroker, Miodrag Soric, Beate steinhorst, Kristin Zeier, Sofia Diogo Mateus, Manuela Buttgereit, Ilona Wendt, Olof Pock, and Gero, case, Japanese were involved on the part of the DW. “Just as a Team, we conquer our place in the digital world,” said Ines Pohl the collaboration.

“A diverse range of opinions map”

The prestigious RIAS award for radio, television and Internet productions will be presented, which have contributed in particular to the international understanding between Germany and the USA. Under the former the price of German journalists such as ZDF Anchorman Claus Kleber, the current WDR Director Tom Buhrow and RTL-News-makers-presenter Peter Kloeppel. This year, among others, the CBS program “60 Minutes” and were awarded by the satirist Jan böhmermann – produced Video, “grab US by the pussy-American unwashed”.
