During a speech at the Eastern Economic Forum, Putin joked about Harris' «expressive and infectious laugh,» adding that it is a sign that «she is doing well.»
Putin explained that Moscow had supported Biden in the past, but that they are now directing their support to Harris, as Biden himself has urged his supporters to do the same.
«We will support her,» Putin said, but also emphasized that it is the American the people who ultimately decide the election.
He also mentioned former President Donald Trump, who imposed more sanctions on Russia than any president before him.
“If Harris is fine, she might avoid such measures,» Putin joked.
The US presidential election will be held on November 5, with Kamala Harris now the Democratic nominee after Biden withdrew from the race in July.
