The article urges the public to immediately contact the police if they find a suspicious hand grenade or other explosive object.

Viktor Adolphson, the police's external commander in Södermalm in Stockholm, also expresses concern that such messages must be communicated at all.

“I fully realize the unpleasantness and abnormality that such a text even has to be written,” he writes on X.

“Transported by children and young people”
According to the police, children and young people are often used to transport hand grenades and other explosive objects, sometimes so young that they keep these dangerous objects in their homes.

– Anyone who transports or stores hand grenades exposes themselves, family members and the public to danger, says Pär Christianssén, acting section head at the National Bomb Protection Agency, on the police website.

The police emphasize that these objects are extremely dangerous and that the slightest impact can lead to an explosion. If you come across a suspicious object, it is important to keep your distance and not touch it under any circumstances.

“New Year makes it worse”
Ahead of the New Year, the police also point out that the sound of fireworks can lead to confusion and suspicions of explosions. However, Christianssén believes that it is part of the normal picture:

– It is part of the normal picture, even if it is not allowed, and that does not mean that you as a member of the public need to call the police as soon as you hear a bang.

At the same time, the police appeal to parents to be aware of their children's behavior and who they hang out with. Organized crime often exploits young people to perform risky tasks.
