– We have carried out sampling around Ärna airport and out of 28 wells examined, the analysis results showed that the target value for Pfas-21 was slightly exceeded in four wells. We have offered the four affected well owners to pay for bottled water for drinking water and cooking, to ensure that the well owners have access to clean drinking water, says Swedish Armed Forces press manager Therese Fagerstedt.

According to the Swedish Food Agency, whoever has their own well is responsible for the quality on the drinking water. The guideline values are not legally binding but serve as a guide for assessing water quality.

The issue of responsibility for the pollution needs to be investigated in some cases, according to the Swedish Armed Forces, which promises to take responsibility where it is clear that they themselves are responsible.

– The Swedish Armed Forces have a good dialogue with the well owners concerned and further sampling will be carried out to verify the results, says Therese Fagerstedt.

The armed forces have sent offers to property owners about sampling wells in several areas where the armed forces operate or have previously conducted business.
