Murhaf Hamid gained national notoriety last spring when he sold Mayflowers for a record amount, but the incident sparked discussion on social media.

The X post that led to charges – and a massive drive against the woman who wrote it – read:

“And why a damn blatte kid.. would be a white and Swedish in the picture.. damn tired of all the advertising also with only blacks and huckleberries..”

The woman , who at the time of the post was a member of the Sweden Democrats, denies having written the post and claims that her account was hacked. According to the verdict, however, there is nothing to support this after a review of the mobile phone.

Prosecutor Mathias Larsson argued, according to SVT Nyheter Skåne, that the crime was of such a serious nature that it should lead to prison, but with regard to the woman's privacy he decided that probation was a more appropriate punishment.

Lund's district court finds him right and convicts the woman of both gross slander and incitement against a ethnic group. She is also ordered to pay 30,000 kroner in damages with interest to Murhaf Hamid.

“The comment in question contains offensive and derogatory expressions for dark-skinned people and Muslim women,” the judgment states.
