1,374 victims of human trafficking identified

Domestic. During a global operation, a total of 1,374 victims of human trafficking were identified and 219 perpetrators were arrested. In Sweden, seven individuals were found who are suspected of being exploited in pimping or human trafficking, as well as a suspected perpetrator.

The operation took place between June 3-9 and aimed at detecting and identifying human trafficking for sexual purposes, begging and coercion to commit crimes. The effort was carried out within the framework of Empact, a European cooperation against organized and serious international crime.

Particular focus was on identifying and protecting victims of crime, especially women and children, but also on arresting, investigating and prosecuting the perpetrators who commits the crimes. Sweden participated in the effort and carried out checks at several locations in the country.

In addition to around fifty checked individuals and locations in Sweden, seven people could be identified as potential victims of human trafficking and one person as a suspected perpetrator.

< p>Sweden is a destination country for human trafficking, but also a transit country for human trafficking victims to other Nordic countries. Therefore, the aim of the effort was also to create a situational picture of human trafficking crimes in Sweden and in other EU countries.
