The final of the Self Driving Challenge organized by the RDW took place this year on June 14 in Lelystad, where a total of seven teams from Dutch colleges and universities competed against each other. In the closed category, the teams used an electric kart from the RDW that the students had to program themselves. In this category, Hanze, The Hague University of Applied Sciences, Windesheim, NHL Stenden and University of Twente competed against each other. In the open category, the teams brought their own vehicle. Fontys opted for a quad and the University of the North for a Renault Twizzy.
Hanze took first place in the closed category. The students managed to complete all six assignments successfully. Moreover, the team managed to end up with their kart as the only one in the parking space. The Hague University of Applied Sciences came second and the University of Twente took third place. In the open category, the Fontys team completed four of the six assignments, after which the quad went off the track. However, the team performed better than the University of the North, its only competitor.
