Spotify reports that the Car Thing gadget will no longer be usable from December 9. The company stopped production of the device in 2022 and never officially released it in the Benelux.
On a support page, the music streaming service says that Car Thing is being canceled to 'streamline the product offering'. The company stopped production of the control panel in the summer of 2022, just under a year after the limited release. At the time, Spotify cited low demand for the product as the reason for the cancellation. The car accessory has continued to function normally since then, but as of December 9, existing Car Things are no longer operational.
The company recommends that users reset the device and dispose of it in accordance with local guidelines. There are no plans for a replacement product or modified return policy. Car Thing was Spotify's first and so far only hardware product.
