AMD has released a test version of Radeon Anti-Lag 2. The latency-reducing technology, unlike its predecessors, must be implemented per game. Counter-Strike 2 is the first game to support the feature.
The company writes in a blog post that Anti-Lag 2 is an improved version of Anti-Lag+. The latter was released in September 2023, but was quickly taken offline after it became clear that the software was considered a cheat by anti-cheat systems, such as that of Counter-Strike 2. AMD has worked closely with Valve on Anti-Lag 2, so the feature is not can more be described as a cheat.
While the first version of Anti-Lag adjusts the speed of the CPU to that of the GPU to reduce latency, Anti-Lag 2 also affects the code of a game to better synchronize frames. AMD claims a latency reduction of an average of 95 percent more compared to Anti-Lag. Developers must add the technology to their games, which means that the feature is not supported by default.
Furthermore, Anti-Lag 2 supports more GPU architectures. The technology is compatible with video cards from the RX 5000 series and newer models, as well as Ryzen 6000 CPUs with an IGPU and newer models. To use the feature, users must install preview driver 24.5.1 for Anti-Lag 2.
