Smartlock manufacturer Loqed has filed for bankruptcy

Loqed, a Dutch manufacturer of smart locks, has filed for bankruptcy. The company makes this known to users. According to Loqed, existing locks will remain online and the company is discussing whether the software can be made open source.

Loqed confirms the bankruptcy application by email to users and on the Gathering of Tweakers forum. The company says that existing locks will remain online and that new locks can still be installed. According to the manufacturer, this is possible because the Loqed Online Foundation has taken over the management of the platform.

The company is discussing with the curator how the platform can continue to exist in the long term, so that users can continue to use their locks in the future. The smartlock manufacturer currently calls this its 'first priority'. “It is also discussed whether the software can be offered open source,” writes Loqed.

The company says it will remain available for questions 'in the coming weeks', although it cannot continue to provide 'the usual support and warranty'. The company is investigating alternative ways to provide support and guarantee with the curator. Users with a defective product are advised to contact customer service 'as soon as possible'. The company will investigate whether guarantees can subsequently be transferred to another party.

Loqed further advises users against returning recently purchased locks to the company, even if they are still within the legal return period of thirty days . Loqed calls it 'unlikely' that the purchase amount can be refunded. The company says it will keep customers informed by email about the settlement of the bankruptcy.

Loqed was founded in 2016 in the Netherlands. His Loqed Touch Smart Lock has been widely available since 2022. Last week, the company asked in an email whether users would be willing to subscribe to certain cloud features that were previously free. The company later reported that any subscription would not apply to existing customers. The manufacturer now says that last week's email was 'an attempt at a last resort'.
