Bloomberg: Apple will not provide Mac Studio and Mac Pro with M4 soc until mid-2025

Apple will upgrade its Mac Studio and Mac Pro to the new M4 SoC no earlier than mid-2025. That's what Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman says. Other Mac devices will switch to the M4 SoC during 2024, with the exception of the MacBook Air.

Gurman says in the Q&A section of his Power On newsletter that consumers M4 SoC from the new iPad Pro cannot be expected in the Mac Studio and Mac Pro this year. The upgrades to these devices would not appear until mid-2025. Apple will equip the Mac Studio and Mac Pro with sockets from the M2 series in 2023.

All other Macs, except the MacBook Air, will be available with M4 sockets by the end of 2024, according to Gurman. . The Bloomberg journalist does not expect the new models to be unveiled at WWDC in June. Apple may not release the new Mac devices with M4 sockets until around the fall. In October last year, Apple unveiled an M3 version of the 24″ iMac.

The M4 SoC is currently only available in the iPad Pro 2024. The chip is made on the 3nm process and consists consists of four Performance cores and six Efficiency cores. The SoC also has a new NPU for faster AI calculations. The GPU supports, among other things, mesh shading and hardware ray tracing.
