Google makes cloud-based ide Project IDX available in public beta

Google has made its cloud-based ide Project IDX available in public beta. The tool no longer has a waiting list, but is still experimental. There will also be some new features available for the IDE, such as slash commands.

Google writes in a blog post that it is making the integrated developer environment available to everyone with a Google account. The ide can be used in the browser and runs in Google's own cloud. Project IDX no longer has a waiting list as of this week.

Project IDX was released last year and became available gradually, but until now it has always been a closed beta. Google now says that developers can now also use standard templates and create up to five workspaces. Users can also use the new Gemini chatbot to help write or analyze code.

With the opening of the public beta, support for slash commands is also coming so users can automatically perform tasks, such as asking for help with fixing bugs. There will also be support for a chatbot based on Gemini.
