Blizzard cancels BlizzCon 2024, wants physical event for WoW anniversary

Blizzard has announced that its annual BlizzCon trade show will not take place in 2024. The developer does not mention a specific reason for the cancellation, but does promise that the gaming conference will return in the future.

In a blog post on its website, Blizzard reports that canceling the exchange was not an easy decision. However, details are not discussed. Instead of BlizzCon, other events are planned for its upcoming games. In addition to World of Warcraft: The War Within, Diablo IV's first expansion is called Vessel of Hatred. There are also activities planned for the 30th anniversary of Warcraft, which will take place both in-game and in person worldwide.

The company also confirms that it will be present at the Gamescom trade fair in August. Overwatch fans can go to Dreamhack Dallas and Dreamhack Stockholm, where the Overwatch Champions Series takes place.

The first BlizzCon fair was held in 2005 and has been held annually since then at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. In 2020, the fair was canceled due to the corona pandemic, while an online variant was held in 2021. The event was also canceled in 2022, this time due to a sexual harassment case. Activision Blizzard settled with the US state of California for $54 million in December 2023.
