Spotify plans to increase its subscription prices in a few countries, Bloomberg claims, citing insiders. In addition, the company would like to offer a subscription with podcasts and music at the current price, but without audiobooks.
The streaming platform would like to increase the subscription price by $1 to $2 per month in five countries, including the UK, Australia and Pakistan, Bloomberg writes. The price in the US will increase later this year, anonymous sources told the news agency. The higher prices should cover the costs that audiobooks entail.
Spotify also wants to offer a separate, more expensive subscription with audiobooks. At the current subscription price of $11 in the US, the subscription would include music and podcasts, but not audiobooks. Users would then have to purchase these separately. It is not yet clear when and whether the changes will be introduced in the Benelux. Spotify itself has not yet announced any price increases or changes. It is also not known exactly how much a subscription with audiobooks will cost.
Last year, Spotify started offering audiobooks for paying users. They can listen to 15 hours of audiobooks every month.
