The contract signed by FMV is for 321 armored personnel carriers with associated weapon stations for delivery to the Swedish Armed Forces. The agreement is for approximately SEK 5.3 billion.

– This will be a significant addition to the army, which will receive a very potent armored all-terrain vehicle. Thanks to good cooperation with the supplier and the Finnish Armed Forces, we can place this order and get fast deliveries, says Jonas Lotsne, head of FMV's military equipment business area, in a statement.

The vehicles will be part of, among other things, motorized units , anti-aircraft and artillery units.

The order is the result of the research and development agreement Common Armored Vehicle System, CAVS, which is a multinational collaboration between Sweden, Finland, Latvia and Germany, and the industrial company Patria. It aims to develop an armored vehicle system based on the common requirements of the countries involved. Sweden joined CAVS in 2022.

– It is record speed to produce a series-produced vehicle in such a short time. The fact that we have succeeded in this is a combination of the fact that we have joined the CAVS collaboration and that we have minimized the adaptations for the Swedish defence. We have adopted a model that already exists and only made minor adaptations to unique Swedish special requirements. Now the Swedish Armed Forces get a vehicle that meets the requirements well and that is delivered quickly and on time, says Johan Lampinen, section manager armored terrain vehicle FMV.

The biggest Swedish adaptation that is carried out is the integration of the ground management support system in the vehicles.

The vehicles will, among other things, be equipped with protective capabilities in the form of a smoke thrower system and automatic fire extinguishing system, as well as an action system with a superimposed weapon station. The weapons station can be equipped with, among other things, heavy machine guns, grenade launchers and anti-tank weapons.

A pre-series of 20 vehicles has already been delivered to the Armed Forces. This order includes, in addition to troop transport vehicles, the combat command vehicle and medical transport vehicle variants. The first to be delivered to the Armed Forces are the troop transport vehicles, where deliveries will begin in the first half of next year. It will be followed in the coming years by the other vehicle variants as well. Deliveries will continue until 2030.
