– I have emphasized that it it is not acceptable that prices increase so much, Elisabeth Svantesson said after the meeting.

She wants the food giants to do more to push prices and say provides that she will follow the price development in the coming weeks. During this time, she promises to “keep an eye on” the food giants.

The food chains state that the increased prices are due to several things, including price increases by suppliers. They have also referred to the fact that their margins have not increased in line with the price increases, which refutes the accusation that they would take advantage of the crisis.

The high food prices are an expression of the inflation that comes after the Riksbank increased the money supply in Sweden by 10-20 percent per year since the corona pandemic broke out, with the aim of saving large companies and the stock exchange.

That those in power now blame the increased food prices on the shops is questioned in a new report from the School of Economics, Lund University and Sweden's Agricultural University, which Fria Tider wrote about on Tuesday. According to the report, food prices in Sweden have been raised by about the same amount as in other countries within the EU.
