Power supply for RTX 4000: CableMod angles 12VHPWR plugs by 90° using an adapter

CableMod has introduced the “12VHPWR Right Angle Adapter”, a power cable adapter for the 12VHPWR connector of the GeForce RTX 4000, which angles the 16-pin connector 90 degrees at a right angle. This should significantly improve the cramped space conditions resulting from the centrally positioned connection.

The adapter should provide more space

Since the GeForce RTX 4000 (“Ada Lovelace”) is wider than the GeForce RTX 3000 (“Ampere”) purely in terms of dimensions, there can be space problems in the case between the graphics card and the side wall or the side window, as CableMod does in its Announcement explained.

The manufacturer now wants to tackle this problem with its 90-degree angled 12VHPWR adapter, which only takes up 23.2 mm of space between the graphics card and the housing and route the PCIe power cable in the direction of the power supply unit to save space.

The “12VHPWR Right Angle Adapter” is scheduled to go on sale in advance on October 31, 2022 via the manufacturer's online shop and retailers, but it is not yet known when it will be delivered. The adapter should appear in two configurations and support both the GeForce RTX 4090 FE (test) and GeForce RTX 4080 FE as well as custom designs such as the Asus GeForce RTX 4090 TUF (test) with a 16-pin connector rotated 180 degrees.< /p>

12VHPWR natively or via adapter

With the new graphics cards of the “Ada” generation, the new 12VHPWR connector is finding its way into the power supply. Since power supplies do not necessarily have to be designed for the new ATX 3.0 standard and do not have to offer a 12VHPWR connector themselves, backwards compatibility solutions are also a viable way of connecting the graphics card.

  • New 12VHPWR connector: be quiet! for power supply compatibility with RTX 4000
  • 12VHPWR connector: Seasonic and FSP with cables and power supplies
  • MSI MEG Ai1000P & Ai1300P: ATX 3.0 power supplies with 12VHPWR and up to 2,600 W
