The new iPhone 14 Plus has replaced the mini version. In the past two years, Apple released a smaller variant in addition to the standard iPhone, but this year Apple has taken a different approach. The iPhone 14 Plus is the larger version of the iPhone 14 and the screen size is therefore the biggest reason why you should choose the Plus model. But when Apple released Plus models years ago, there were even more differences. Is that also the case with the iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Plus? We'll show you here.

Differences iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Plus

As the name suggests the iPhone 14 Plus is the larger version of the regular iPhone 14. But there are a few other differences that can be important when choosing between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

  • Screen size and resolution
  • Dimensions and weight
  • Battery
  • Price

#1 Screen size and resolution

As the name implies, the iPhone 14 Plus has a larger screen. The iPhone 14 Plus has a 6.7-inch display, which is the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The regular iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch display, which is the same size as the screen of the iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 14 Plus is therefore mainly for anyone who wants a large screen, but not the more expensive pro functions of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. We see another small difference in the resolution: the iPhone 14 Plus has a slightly lower pixel density, although you will not see that so quickly in practice.

The larger screen size of the iPhone 14 Plus has mainly advantage that you see more on the screen and can make your buttons bigger. On a webpage in Safari, you can see more text without having to scroll. And if you have trouble operating or reading, you can make buttons and text bigger. The larger size will therefore also appeal to people with less good eyesight.

#2 Dimensions and weight: The iPhone 14 Plus is a lot bigger

A larger screen automatically means a larger device. In terms of size, the iPhone 14 Plus is almost the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but a lot larger than the regular iPhone 14. The difference in height is 14 millimeters and in width it is just a little bit more than 7 millimeters. Both devices are the same thickness. This larger size makes the iPhone 14 Plus a bit more difficult to hold and operate with one hand. This makes it less easy to reach a button at the top of the screen, without having to grab the iPhone differently or use a second hand. If you've never had such a large model before, it can take some getting used to at first.

You will also notice the difference in weight. The iPhone 14 Plus is over 30 grams heavier than the iPhone 14. But thanks to the aluminum material, it is not yet as heavy as an iPhone 14 Pro made of stainless steel.

#3 Battery: iPhone 14 Plus has the best battery life ever (according to Apple)

In the battery life between the iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Plus, we see that there are big differences. According to Apple, the iPhone 14 Plus has the longest battery life ever of all iPhones. That's partially true, if we look at the numbers. In terms of audio playback (100 hours), the iPhone 14 Plus beats all other models (95 hours in the iPhone 14 Pro Max and 80 hours in the iPhone 14). But if we look at other measurements, we see a slightly different picture. The iPhone 14 Plus can play up to 26 hours of video and stream up to 20 hours of video. With the iPhone 14 Pro Max, that is 29 hours and 25 hours respectively. And with the iPhone 14 you don't get further than 20 hours and 16 hours respectively.

All in all, the battery of the iPhone 14 Plus lasts a long time and that will certainly be one of the reasons why you should choose this model. But if you really want the best battery life, the iPhone 14 Pro Max might be a better choice. Keep in mind that the larger battery in the iPhone 14 Plus also has longer to charge.

#4 Price: €150 difference

A longer battery life, larger screen: that also has consequences for the price tag of the iPhone 14 Plus. The iPhone 14 Plus costs £150 more than the regular iPhone 14 (£1,019 vs £1,169). This means that the price difference between the regular version and the Plus model is greater than in previous years with the regular version and the mini, because there the price difference was still €100. Add to that the fact that the new iPhones have become more expensive and you have a considerably higher price tag. Until a year ago, the price you pay for the iPhone 14 Plus was the price of the regular Pro model.

Agreements iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Plus

So the screen, size, battery life and price are the only differences between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. That means that there was not a better camera in the Plus model like in previous years. The iPhone 14 Plus is everything the iPhone 14 is, only bigger. The camera, crash detection, chip, design, color choice, storage capacities and more are all the same. Your choice for the iPhone 14 Plus should therefore mainly be based on the aforementioned differences and not on functions such as the camera or the quality of the screen. If you want a better camera, you should go to the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Conclusion iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Plus

The iPhone 14 Plus is for anyone looking for a bigger iPhone but don't care about the best camera, most advanced screen or premium design. Your choice for the Plus model compared to the regular iPhone 14 is therefore mainly due to the screen size, the longer battery life and the dimensions of the device itself. Do you only need the largest device, for example because you play a lot of games or watch movies and series on your iPhone, or do you want an iPhone that you can use for a long time, then the iPhone 14 is for you. If you don't really need the larger screen, you can consider the regular iPhone 14. Although we think the iPhone 13 is a wiser choice in that case, because the two devices differ little from each other.
