Economy. That Swedes like to borrow to buy homes they can't afford is nothing new. But what few may have known is that it is not in Stockholm that the situation is worst – but in Västra Götaland.

Housing prices have skyrocketed during the 2010s and disposable incomes have not kept up.
Of Sweden's 21 counties, prices in relation to income have increased the most in Västra Götaland county. There, the number of years it takes to earn a condominium has doubled between 2011 and 2020.
Prices are certainly higher in Stockholm in absolute terms, but as Stockholmers earn significantly more than Gothenburgers and the like do, the relationship to income still looks better in Stockholm, figures from Statistics Norway show.
