Domestic. A 13-year-old girl who has been confined to a wheelchair by a serious illness is lying and can in fact walk, claims doctor and academic Agnes Wold in a statement. Now the statement is met with harsh criticism.
& nbsp; – This is completely absurd, says chief physician Artur Fedorowski about Wold's claim.

It was at eight o'clock on Saturday night that the celebrity doctor Agnes Wold went on a vicious attack on a girl who became wheelchair-bound after suffering from a serious, severely handicapping illness.

The girl tragic fate was portrayed in 2015 in a documentary in P1, “Who will cure Maja?”. As a 13-year-old, Maja, as the girl was called in the documentary, developed the disease postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, commonly referred to as “POTS”.

Maya's disease debuted after she received the vaccine Gardasil, which is given to girls of primary school age to prevent cervical cancer. She became powerless, had pain, loss of sensation, muscle weakness and large, painful rashes on her arms and face.

The disease gradually worsened and eventually became so severe that Maja could not walk alone and could only sit up short moments. Maja was in constant pain and could not sleep more than three or four hours a night. She was forced to leave school and use a wheelchair.

There is no doubt that Maja suffers from POTS. The diagnosis has been made by associate professor and doctor Artur Fedorowski, who examined Maja on several occasions and made a thorough investigation of the case.

But when Agnes Wold sat and tweeted on Saturday night, she apparently realized that she knew better and accused Maja of pretending to be ill. In a post on Twitter, she wrote that Maja was “a girl who lay in bed and refused to get up”.

When Fria Tider calls Artur Fedorowski and asks him to comment on what Agnes Wold wrote about Maja on Twitter, he is appalled.

– This is completely absurd. It is a girl who is being treated at Karolinska, including at the neurologist. She has received very severe treatment and she is still disabled. It has nothing to do with will, he says to Fria Tider.

Artur Fedorowski emphasizes that there is no doubt that Maja is physically ill and that several other doctors have made the same assessment.

– I have followed her for many years and she is physically and somatically ill. It has nothing to do with the psyche.

– I think you should be careful if you want to comment on a patient that you have not examined and met yourself, he says when Fria Tider asks what he thinks about Agnes Wold comments on Maja's condition on Twitter.

Wold's sudden attack on Maja seems to have been an attempt to make the radio journalist Per Shapiro suspicious, who made the documentary about Maja for Swedish Radio. Per Shapiro now runs the podcast Folkets Radio and has received attention for asking critical questions to the Swedish Public Health Agency at its press conferences. It seems to have annoyed Agnes Wold, who tweeted the following:

“Aha! Per Shapiro, who appeared at the press conferences at the Swedish Public Health Agency as a representative of “Folkets Radio”, was the journalist who made the deeply unreasonable documentary for Kaliber, which was rejected by the review committee. The one who followed a girl who was in bed and refused to get up and where Kaliber managed to insinuate that this was because she received the vaccine Gardasil. ” in P1 Documentary. The program about Maja has never been criticized by the review board. However, a completely different feature that Per Shapiro did for Kaliber was criticized by the board, which has nothing to do with Maja.

Maja has been ill for almost ten years and is today in her 20s. Whether she will ever recover and be able to walk again, only the future can tell.

Per Shapiro has commented on Agnes Wold's accusations that Maja pretended to be ill in a post on Facebook.

“Agnes Wold is something of a media celebrity and is frequently hired as an expert on various health issues. The fact that she makes such completely unfounded – and heartless – statements actually raises questions about her credibility “, he writes.

When Fria Tider calls Agnes Wold on Wednesday morning, she initially tries to make it sound as if her criticism was about the completely unrelated report in Kaliber.

– You know that it was dropped in the review committee and so on? It was a terrible report. It was so unreasonable and distorted in all the ways as well. Everything was insane.

Has it been decided in the review committee that she would not be ill in the way that she could not get up?- No, but I do not remember it. But it was probably implied that it had to do with Gardasil.

Although it is not what you write, but you write that she “refused to go up”.

– I have absolutely no desire to discuss this. Where did you call from, did you say?

I have talked to the doctor who diagnosed the girl and he says that your statement is completely absurd. Is there anything you have a comment on?

– Where did you call from, did you say?

My name is Widar Nord and I call from a newspaper called Free Time, but it's not relevant to the question I ask.

– Aha, yes, but I have no desire to talk to you about it, you see.

< p> But you're a doctor. Is it then appropriate to comment on patients you have never met or examined?

– I comment on the program. You do not do such a program.

No, you write that “she refuses to get up” …

– Exactly. The program is about a girl lying in bed and her parents are desperate and so on. Hey, hey!
