The UK has announced that South Africa and five other countries are red-listed in the country's travel rules. Flights from South Africa will be suspended from noon on Friday.
According to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the union should follow the British example. The Commission therefore proposes that “flights from the southern African region be stopped”.
The Swedish state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell is critical and does not want to take any action before knowing if they were needed.
