Cementa's permit on Gotland is extended

Domestic. Cementa will have eight months to mine limestone on Gotland, Minister of the Environment and Climate Per Bolund announced today at a press conference with Minister of Trade and Industry Ibrahim Baylan.

Cementa's permit to mine lime on Gotland is extended until the company has mined the amount of lime they receive according to the current permit, reports Ekot.

– It is an extraordinary situation that requires extra ordinary solutions, said Per Bolund (MP) during the press conference.

Ibrahim Baylan (S) stated that the cement stop could have “extensive consequences” for several industries in Sweden.

It was Mark- and the Environmental Court of Appeal, which on 6 July rejected Cementa's application for a renewed permit to mine limestone in the existing quarries in Slite on Gotland. Industry associations have warned that the decision could lead to hundreds of thousands of jobs being threatened in Sweden.
