Philips Hue Signe Gradient

In about a month, the IFA would normally take place in Berlin, dé fair for tech and entertainment. This is also when the new Philips Hue products are unveiled. A digital keynote is indeed planned for September 2, but the first details are already known. In addition to the previously discussed Gradient Lightstrip, there will also be a gradient variant of the Philips Hue Signe, the rod-shaped floor lamp. And that was to be expected, because a few weeks ago, Hue creator George Yianni already announced in an interview how enthusiastic he is about the gradient technology, which allows a beautiful color gradient.

He then indicated that multiple Hue products the ‘gradient treatment’ would get. “The easiest is of course with the linear products – and we do have a few of those”, says Yianni.

We now know which product is next: the Philips Hue Signe. It was introduced three years ago and evoked varying reactions. Some people think it's beautiful, others find the stick pointing up too thin. It's basically a vertical light strip on a base. You can choose from a table lamp and a somewhat larger model for the floor. In terms of price, the Signe is not really cheap.

So new is the support for gradient lighting, where you can specify the color per zone, for example to realize a rainbow effect. The design has also been slightly modified. The foot used to be triangular (see photo below), but now has the shape of a circle.

Below you can see the prices of the current models:

Other contenders for the ’gradient treatment are the Philips Hue Play Lightbar and the Outdoor Lightstrip. In addition, the company could also work with lamps such as the Philips Hue Ensis (€400). This is a long kitchen table lamp that can be used as an alternative to a traditional fluorescent tube.
