AOC Agon G3 monitors: Five curved VA with 165 Hz on 27 to 34 inches

The AOC gaming monitors are coming up with the new G3 series. The five models with a total of 27 to 34 inches all have a VA panel curved in a radius of 1 meter (1000R) and a refresh rate of 165 Hz.

No IPS in sight

AOC completely dispenses with IPS displays, as was the case with the newcomers to the G2 series with up to 240 Hz. VA panels offer a significantly higher contrast ratio, but are usually inferior to IPS in terms of response time and color rendering.

165 Hz, 1000R and Motion Blur Reduction

In order to minimize streaking (ghosting), the AOC monitors of the G3 series have a refresh rate of 165 Hz and a “Motion Blur Reduction ”, usually a strobing backlight with which the Moving Picture Response Time (MPRT) is reduced to 1 ms. The response time when switching between gray levels (GtG) is higher than 4 ms.

While the curved displays of the G2 series are arched in a radius of 1.5 meters (1500R), the curvature of 1000R in the G3 series is significantly more pronounced. With the Odyssey family, Samsung had brought out the first monitors with 1000R, in the meantime, for example, BenQ and MSI also offer models with this radius.

According to the AOC, all models offer FreeSync Premium, work with 8-bit color depth and have integrated speakers. However, there are sometimes contradictions in the information on the key data. While the editorial team has information material that mentions HDMI and USB in addition to DisplayPort, this information is missing on the manufacturer's product pages. However, the images show that both HDMI and USB connections are available. Nevertheless, the key data should be treated with caution.

Essentially, the models differ in size, resolution and the associated aspect ratio. The CU34G3S delivers 3,440 × 1,440 pixels in 21: 9 format on 34 inches. The CQ32G3SU and the CQ27G3SU have 2,560 × 1,440 pixels on 31.5 and 27 inches, respectively. Only 1,920 × 1,080 pixels are available for the C32G3AE and C27G3U, which are also 31.5 inches and 27 inches.
