Group calling (both via audio and video) is still popular because of the many working from home. Since the start of the corona pandemic, WhatsApp has already increased the limit of the number of participants for group calling from four to eight and now the chat app has started rolling out a new feature. You can join a missed video call later.

Join a missed WhatsApp video call later

An annoying feature of video calling in WhatsApp was always that you had to answer immediately on the first call to participate in such a video group conversation. If you missed the notification or didn't have time to answer the call, you could only join the conversation if it was restarted. That is rather inconvenient for all participants who do participate in the conversation, especially now that the limit is eight participants.

This has been resolved in the latest version. You can join a group call at any time, as long as it is still active. This allows everyone to participate at a time that suits them. In the Conversations tab, you can see a conversation in progress. It works with both video and audio group conversations. You can still participate from this screen in a single tap. You can see in the group information screen who is already participating in the conversation before you enter the conversation yourself. In that screen you can also see who else has been invited, but not yet joined the group call.

So this new feature only deals with calls and not typed chats. There it has been possible for much longer to be invited at any time and to participate in a chat. The new feature is rolling out from now on, so it may take a while before you see it.
