“Curved” was a clear trend in gaming monitors in recent years, but “flat” is increasingly popular again this year. Samsung completely dispenses with curved panels in the new swing in the Odyssey family. The range extends from the G30A with FHD to the G50A with WQHD to the G70A with UHD and HDMI 2.1.
When the Odyssey series was presented in January 2020, Samsung focused on the particularly strong curvature (1000R), which should further increase immersion when gaming. But Curved is not for everyone and so the series was later expanded to include models with a flat screen. Today's new releases from Samsung are all flat.
Odyssey G7 G70A
The new line-up is led by the Odyssey G7 G70A alias G28AG70, which is offered in this country as S28AG700 or LS28AG702NUXEN – the various identifiers at Samsung do not make it easy for editors and customers to keep track of things.

Samsung had already revealed the key data for the G70A before today's presentation, which is why we should not go into too much detail here. The 28-inch IPS panel displays the 3,840 × 2,160 pixels (4K UHD) with up to 144 Hz and 1 ms response time. The indication of 16.7 million colors indicates an 8-bit color depth. FreeSync Premium Pro, G-Sync Compatible and DisplayHDR 400 are supported. Two HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 1.4, two USB-A ports and a headphone output meet a versatile adjustable stand, which is surrounded by ring-shaped RGB-LED lighting, whose colors adapt to the colors in the game via “CoreSync”.
One function that has not yet been described is “Auto Source Switch +”: When a connected device (such as a notebook or game console) is switched on, the monitor detects this and automatically switches to the corresponding input signal. A manual change of the image source is therefore not necessary. This function has the G70A ahead of the other innovations.
Odyssey G5 G50A
The Odyssey G5 G50A alias G27AG50 alias LS27AG500 starts a class lower, whose IPS panel with a 27 inch diagonal displays the WQHD resolution of 2,560 × 1,440 pixels with up to 165 Hz and 1 ms response time. The design and stand as well as the gaming features are the same as the G70A. In addition to “CoreSync Lighting”, the latter also includes “Low Input Lag Mode”, “Super Arena Gaming UX” and “Ultrawide Game View”, a mode for changing the aspect ratio from 16: 9 to the wider 21: 9 format.

Instead of FreeSync Premium Pro and HDR 400 there is FreeSync Premium and HDR10 support. Instead of HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4, there are also HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2, each in a separate version. The significantly stripped-down equipment compared to the G7 model is also reflected in the lack of USB ports.
Odyssey G3 G30A
The Odyssey G3 G30A in the Variant G24AG30 with 24 inch and G27AG30 with 27 inch the entry. LS24AG30x and LS27AG30x are the German product codes.

Here, Samsung relies on a VA panel with a high contrast ratio of 3,000: 1, but potentially longer switching times, which is underlined by the lack of response time (GtG) information. Using backlight strobing, however, the Moving Picture Response Time (MPRT) should reach 1 ms. The full HD resolution is displayed at 144 Hz. In the 27-inch model, the pixel density of 82 ppi is correspondingly very low; the G70A has 157 ppi.
Only FreeSync Premium, no G-Sync compatibility and no HDR standards are in the data sheet of the G30A. In addition, a whole range of gaming features of the G7 and G5 have to be dispensed with: Neither the low input lag mode, nor the synchronizable RGB lighting or the special user interface for gamers (Super Arena Gaming UX) is available in the G3 Series.
