The results came from a recent Yougov poll in which 1,224 adult Americans were asked how confident they are in defeating different animal species in a one-man battle without weapons.

Rats, cats and Geese are least threatening to Americans – 72 percent, 69 percent and 61 percent of the population believe they can poach these animals. Medium-sized dogs come in fourth place – 49 percent think they are strong enough to defeat.

Americans were less confident of being able to win over eagles (30 percent), large dogs (23 percent), chimpanzees (17 percent) and king cobras (15 percent). Even more were hesitant when it came to kangaroos (14 percent), wolves (12 percent) and crocodiles (9 percent).

The animals that Americans were least sure to beat in battle turned out to be gorillas , elephants and lions – all at 8% – followed by grizzly bears (6%). with the exception of lions, which women were actually 1 percentage point more confident of being able to beat.
